"Believing that faith is caught and not taught, the program staff of St. John's works with parents,
equipping them to teach and models faith for their children."

The confirmation program of St John's Lutheran Church helps parents fulfill the promised they made to God and their children at Baptism. Believing that faith is caught and not taught, the program staff of St. John's works with parents, equipping them to teach and models faith for their children.

In grades 7 and 8 students attend weekly worship and meet in a variety of groups after worship throughout the school year. Each student is placed in a small group with a caring mentoring guide as part of this process. Students meet in large group with a pastor and parents, in small groups with their assigned groups and guide and in large groups with pastors and guide leaders. Requirements each year include things like: being in worship on Wednesday nights at 6:30, attending all group sessions, performing a predetermined number of community and chancre hours of service, summer confirmation camp and participating in all grade appropriate retreats. At orientation each fall the expectations are shared with parents and student.

In 9th grade students attend weekly worship and meet monthly with pastors and parents. Each student is required to have a mentor and meet seven times with that person. An agenda is provided for those meetings. Other requirements are much the same as in the 7th and 8th grades years. At orientation each fall the expectations are shared with parents and student.

In 10th grade students participate in Affirmation of Faith (confirmation) the first week-end in October. Related to this there is a mandatory paper, interview, and some group meetings and rehearsal. At orientation the fall of the 9th grade year the dates and expectations for all Affirmation of Faith events are shared.
